Halos, Cuties and Sweeties are mandarins from California, different brand names for what are often clementines. In 1999, Sun Pacific began planting Spanish Mandarin trees south of Bakersfield, CA and named the perfect little fruit Cuties. Why are cuties called cuties?Ĭonsumption of the sweet little fruit grew rapidly and during the 90’s Sun Pacific began looking for a way to make this sweet little fruit available to even more kids in America. These plants have a high frequency of parthenocarpy, however, so they still produce fruit. The most frequent reasons for lack of seed development are pollination failure, or nonfunctional eggs or sperm.

SEEDLESS FRUIT such as navel oranges are propagated asexually, usually by grafting. Each banana plant is a genetic clone of a previous generation. Domestic bananas have long since lost the seeds that allowed their wild ancestors to reproduce – if you eat a banana today, you’re eating a clone.
